The wood-burning stove is a common source of warmth and comfort, but the success of the stove largely depends on the right pipe. If the pipe is too large or too small, you won’t get the smoke and fumes extracted properly, and your fire will burn less hot. But what if you want to fit a 7-inch oval pipe to your 6-inch stove?
If you have a 7-inch pipe and you need to attach a 6-inch one, you have a few potential solutions. An adapter could attach to the 7-inch pipeline and hold the 6-inch one in place. A reducer, on the other hand, might be applicable – it is a pipe with one side that is disproportionately smaller than the other. Alternatively, if possible, utilizing a smaller section of tubing, which matches the diameter of the 6-inch tube, might be an option too.
When trying to make use of an adapter, the size needs to be taken into account. There are two kinds of adapters: one variety comprising of male and female ends, and the other with a male and female ends. Make sure you select the correct type or it will not function properly.
When selecting a reducer for your stove, size matters. A reducer too small will not attach and one too large will be incompatible- too snug or spaced out. It’s a balancing act; the key is to get one the proper size.
To properly fit a smaller piece of tubing, make sure its diameter matches that of the 6-inch pipe. Utilize either a ruler or tape measure to discover the exact size. Then search for appropriate tubing with comparable measurements.
After you have determined the proper pipe size, the next step is affixing it to the stove. You can either screw it in or attach it permanently by welding. If you do not have your own welder, you can enlist the help of someone who does and get the job done.
Once the stovepipe is affixed, you need to attach the remaining end to the chimney. To do this, you have the two choices: screwing or welding. If you choose welding, an adequate welder is necessary. If you don’t possess this essential tool, request assistance from someone who does.
From connecting the pipe to the chimney, now it’s time to put in the cap. This cap prevents smoke and fumes from streaming back indoors. An off the shelf version may be acquired from a hardware store, or you can try your hand at fabricating one yourself.
The construction of a cap requires two pieces of metal – one to match the diameter of the pipe, and a second piece cut to size from a sheet. To finish, these two pieces must be linked with a welded connection in the center.
Once the cap is in your possession, it’s time to attach it to the pipe. If securing it with screws is your kind of thing, go ahead and spin away! Otherwise, if welding better suits your needs, track down a welder pro – they are the experts after all! If you’ve none to ask, there’s always a good ol’ fashioned hire option you could look into.
After securely attaching the pipe and cap to the stove, the next step to connect it to the chimney is to join them together. You could either choose to screw or weld them. But if welding is your preferred option, you would require a welder. Don’t worry if you don’t have this valuable tool at your disposal, as it can be borrowed from someone who has one for a successful welding experience.
In order to get the fire going, the stove and pipe must first be in place. Ignition can be achieved with either a match or a flame-producing lighter. Once aflame, it is time to toss in some wood. Whatever type you choose, make sure it is dried and ready to burn!
Once the wood has been placed in the stove, its door must be firmly shut in order to guide the smoke and fumes up the chimney. Failure to ensure the door is securely closed may prevent the smoke and fumes from being sufficiently dispersed.
