JIS G3459 is the standard of stainless steel pipes. It specifies the materials and manufacturing methods of austenitic and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel pipes for high pressure and corrosion resistance.

In recent years, with the development of industry and the advancement of production technology, the application fields of stainless steel pipes are constantly expanding, and the types of stainless steel pipes are also increasing. In order to meet the needs of different fields, JIS G3459 was formulated.

JIS G3459 stainless steel pipes are widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, power, boiler, high temperature resistant, low temperature resistant, corrosion resistant pipeline engineering, shipbuilding, petroleum, nuclear power, medicine, food and other industries.

JIS G3459 specifies the material number of austenitic stainless steel pipes and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel pipes, dimensions, shapes, weight, etc. It also prescribes the methods for manufacturing, heat treatment and inspection.

JIS G3459 covers austenitic stainless steel pipes and austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel pipes with a maximum working pressure of 1000 kPa and a maximum working temperature of 500℃.

Materials

JIS G3459 stainless steel pipes are classified into two types according to their material numbers:

Type S: TP304, TP304L, TP316, TP316L, TP321
Type G: TP310S, TP347, TP347H

Chemical composition

The chemical composition of JIS G3459 stainless steel pipes shall comply with the following table.

Manufacturing methods

JIS G3459 stainless steel pipes shall be manufactured by one of the following methods:

(1) Seamless pipes

(2) Welded pipes

(3) Hot finished seamless pipes

(4) Cold finished seamless pipes

(5) Hot finished welded pipes

(6) Cold finished welded pipes

(7) Extruded pipes

(8) Drawn pipes

(9) Other methods

Seamless pipes and welded pipes shall be manufactured by hot working or cold working.

Hot finished seamless pipes and cold finished seamless pipes shall be manufactured by heat treatment.

Hot finished welded pipes and cold finished welded pipes shall be manufactured by heat treatment.

Extruded pipes and drawn pipes shall be manufactured by hot working or cold working.

Other methods shall be manufactured by the manufacturer’s agreement with the purchaser.

Heat treatment

JIS G3459 stainless steel pipes shall be heat treated to remove the effects of cold working and to dissolve carbides.

The heat treatment shall be performed by one of the following methods:

(1) Annealing

(2) Solution treatment

(3) Stress relieving

(4) Other
